GACC Deutscher Tag, Sunday, Aug. 11

Who loves hanging out with friends, sitting under a canopy of evergreens, eating good food, drinking good beer, and listening to happy music?  You?  Then you should come to GACC's Deutscher Tag Picnic on Sunday, August 11!

All of the member clubs in the German-American Cultural Center take part in this family friendly event at the Austrian Park.  It's only $3 to get into the beautiful park at 56200 Hayes Road, Macomb.  Edelweiss's own Siasswasser Tanzlmusi is playing from 12-3 pm, and the Edelweiss dancers will perform at 4:45 and 5:45.  The parade of flags is at 3 pm, followed by music by Tommy Schober and the Sorgenbrecher.

So don't sit home Sunday -- come and spend it having a great time with friends old and new!

Edelweiss Wins at the Gaufest!

The 19 members who attended the 27. Gaufest in Washington, D.C., are back home.  We're proud of our big winner -- Barb Rauschendorfer!  She will reign as Schafkopfkönigen after winning the tournament. She gets to keep the Wanderpreis for two years.  You'll see a picture of it in the next Wegweiser.  Congratulations, Barb!  She did our Verein proud. Her teacher, Caroline Schaefer, is probably beaming. The late Aunt Caroline was serious about her game, and Barb learned from the best.

June 2 -- Membership Meeting & Dance Practice

Don't forget that our dance practice & membership meeting for the month of June got moved up a week -- we'll be meeting on Sunday, June 2!  Members, friends, and anyone interested in seeing what we're about are all invited to attend.  Dance practice 12:30; meeting 3 pm.  Carpathia Hall, GACC Room, 38000 Utica Rd., Sterling Heights 48312

Saying goodbye to Mike Billo

Our wonderful, long-time members Marianne Billo and Christina Billo Winquest are mourning the loss of their son and brother, Mike Billo.  Although Mike was never an Edelweiss member, we all got to know him because he and his beautiful family were often at our events.  And, of course, we have all followed his 15-year battle against a brain tumor.  Our hearts go out to Marianne and Christina as well as the rest of the family members who loved Mike.  The family has invited their Edelweiss family to come to the memorial service:

  • Saturday, April 13, 2019, Memorial Mass - 10:00am (in state at 9:30am): St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 21100 Madison Street, St. Clair Shores, MI 48081
  • Luncheon following to celebrate his life from 12-5 pm at: Fraternal Order of Eagles 23631 Greater Mack Ave, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080
