Sept. 3-4: Heimat Taenzer Omaha's 50th

Time for a roadtrip?! Our friends from Omaha, Nebraska, are going to be celebrating their 50th Anniversary on Sept. 3-4. Die Heimat Tänzer had to postpone their celebration by one year but are eagerly awaiting the arrival of guests from all over at their wonderful clubhouse at the German-American Society. Our own Siasswasser Tanzlmusi will be playing! Our experiences in Omaha have always been fun and memorable.

Friday night dinner and Saturday Fest Abend banquet dinner are included in the $65 ticket price. Saturday afternoon is a church mass. The hotel is the reasonably priced Best Western Plus ($85-$95/night) just a 5-minute drive from the clubhouse.  If you're interested in going, let Rita Dziersk know by July 25 so she can get the banquet reservations made and paid.  You'll need to send her the check for the banquet ticket (let her know your dinner choice)  and any flowers you are ordering. THIS LINK takes you to more detailed information about the Fest.

Time to Meet Again in Person?  YES!

Our last club meeting was in March 2020.  Far too long ago!  Our beautiful Christmas program video event was a big success, but it doesn't take the place of seeing one another in person. Definitely time for face-to-face socializing!  So.... Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 12, 2021, to get together for a brief meeting followed by a member-only (and friends) picnic. You remember how the picnic works--call and let Annette know you are coming so she can plan the grill selection and Bar Obmann Mark can plan the beverage selection; bring a side dish or dessert to share; come to the park; pay $10/person; enjoy the day with fellow members.  We'll be back at the Jaycee Park in Troy.  A Wegweiser newsletter is coming out shortly that will have more details in it, including Annette's phone number.

  • Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021 -- Jaycee Park in Troy (Long Lake Rd. between John R & Rochester)
  • Dance Group meeting at 12 noon; short Edelweiss meeting at 1 pm; food after that; socializing til dusk

Remembering Betty Werner

Elizabeth (Betty) Werner -- July 2,1933 – April 14, 2021

GTEV Edelweiss would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Elizabeth (Betty) Werner.  She passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the age of 88, just 11 months after the passing of her husband of 68 years.  Betty was born in Yugoslavia in 1933.

She was the loving wife of Andreas "Andy" Werner Sr., former Edelweiss 1. Vorstand.  She was the mother of two children Andy (Pam) Werner and Michael (Gretchen) Werner.  She was Oma to one granddaughter.  She will be dearly missed.  May her family have peace and comfort in their heart during this difficult time.

Betty joined Edelweiss in May 1954 and was awarded Ehrenmitglied for her contributions to our Verein.  She served as a Schuhplattler, Jugendleiterin, and Sachenverwalterin.  In her spare time, she loved to bake.  She and Andy moved up to Sand Lake in northern Michigan after their retirement in the 1980s.

Enjoy this lovely old photo of Betty and Andy from their active dancing days.

Ruhe in Frieden
