One of the best Sundays of the year is just around the corner! Weihnachtsprogramm with Edelweiss friends and family is this Sunday, December 13.  There's a short meeting at 2 pm, with a beautiful music program at 3 pm. It'll get you in the right frame of mind for Advent and Christmas. Afterwards, there's dinner, dessert, and conversation with your fellow Edelweiss members.  Bring a dessert to share, some goodies to nibble on at your table, a raffle prize or two, and your festive spirit. If you have small children, sneak a gift in under the tree for Santa to give out before dinner.

We recently voted to have our annual Hoedown at the Lazy-J Ranch.  As always, it's the Friday after Thanksgiving--November 27.  Start time at 8 pm.  Bring a dish to share and your own drinks.  $20/person covers the awesome 100-year-old barn and the square dance caller.  More details in the event in the right hand calendar!

The annual members-only picnic will take place again at Jaycee Park in Troy on Saturday, August 15, beginning at 3 pm.  Bring a side dish or dessert to share.  Club will bring the Wurst, beer, water, and soft drinks.  $5 per person covers that and will be collected the day of the picnic.  As always, music is likely to break out!  Call Renee at 248-840-3674 to let her know you are attending.  There will be stories about the Gaufest!  And wait til you see the shiny prize our competition group won!!

As most of you know, the 25. Gaufest was held this past weekend in Milwaukee by S.V.E.V. D'Oberlandler. Here are some highlights from the Fest:

 - Members of our dance group competed in Einzel Preisplattln Friday morning.  All of them did a fantastic job!
 - Siasswasser Tanzlmusi played for everyone's listening and dancing pleasure on Friday evening after the Heimatabend program.
 - Edelweiss performed their Ehrentanz, the Sternpolka, in the first band break Friday night.
 - Saturday morning, our dance group entered a team into Gruppen Preisplattln for the first time in about 24 years. We got 9th place out of 20 competing groups. I am so very proud of our effort!
 - Sunday afternoon was filled with the music played by the Gauverband Nordamerika Gaukapelle which was formed by our own Rick Michels and hosts many of Edelweiss' musicians.

I want to congratulate all who participated in Preisplattln, both Einzel and Gruppen! We are very proud of our dancers and appreciate all of our musicians!

I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to all who helped our group prepare for competition; musicians, alternates, dancers, friends, and our Verein.  We would not have been as successful as we were without each and every one of  you!!
